About the Conference:

American journalism is in the midst of a period of pronounced change. Both the technological and economic landscapes continue to evolve. Come join us as we celebrate the 40^th anniversary of Rutgers University’s Journalism & Media Studies Department on April 10, 2015, with a conference that will explore what these changes mean for the production, dissemination, and consumption of quality journalism.

What does the notion of quality journalism mean in the contemporary media environment? Has the definition been changing over time? How should we go about measuring quality journalism? What are the most prominent challenges and opportunities associated with producing and sustaining quality journalism in the contemporary media environment? These are just some of the questions that this conference will address.

Supported by the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and the Democracy Fund, and sponsored by the Department of Journalism & Media Studies and the Media and the Public Interest Initiative, this conference will bring together journalists, news executives, scholars, and public interest advocates to explore these questions, and their implications for contemporary journalism practice and journalism research.
