“Hacking the library with NYPL Digital Labs” Lecture


Please join us on Tuesday, March 6, 6-7:30pm at the SC&I Faculty lounge for a conversation with Ben Vershbow (New York Public Library).

Ben Vershbow heads the innovative Digital Labs, the New York Public Library’s experimental unit for developing ideas and tools for digital research. Ben will discuss how the Labs embrace new technologies, develop advanced interfaces and research tools, and collaborate with curators and the public on projects such as Stereogranimator and What’s on the Menu?. Ben will consider the future of the urban public research library and its role the new information commons.

Prof. Marija Dalbello will introduce Ben and moderate our discussion.

Ben Vershbow is a New York-based digital humanities geek and theater artist. For four years, he was editorial director at the Institute for the Future of the Book, working with Bob Stein. Currently, he is manager of NYPL Labs, adigital innovation unit at The New York Public Library, and runs a theater collective, Group Theory.
