YOU have to make the move from classroom to career.

The sooner you start the better.

How about today?

TAKE THESE ACTION STEPS!

READ YOUR EMAIL

There are so many opportunities surrounding you at Rutgers, take advantage of them!

BE CURIOUS.

Learn something new everyday – that’s part of your job as a student and as an employee or as an entrepreneur.

ATTEND EVENTS

Practice your networking and interview skills.  All skills get better with practice. You have to start somewhere.

SEARCH job and internship opportunities now

Make lists of the skills you need to build (technologies to learn, look up all vocabulary you don’t know). Work on your lists.

FOCUS your energy on you.

Think about what makes you happy and fulfilled.  Go after your own dreams.  Talk to people about your interests.

BE ACTIVE

Don’t waste time on the couch or playing video games.  Invent a video game, take a course on Lynda and add to your skills.

NETWORK

Meet people in the worlds that interest you. Again, go to events, introduce yourself.

Search for interesting people on LinkedIn and see how they built their career one small step at a time.

You can do this!

RESEARCH PROJECTS

Make every course count, use class projects to investigate issues, trends, jobs and companies that interest you.

Give yourself something to say in an interview.

CREATE A WEBSITE/BUILD A PORTFOLIO.

Create course projects or do independent projects that demonstrate your skills.

Get blogging if you are writer.

Volunteer to update social media for a student organization so you can point to your work.

Start a YouTube channel if you are a journalist or performer.

SHOW OFF WHAT YOU CAN DO

Don’t talk about it, DO IT.  Ask someone to help you!
